On 11th of December 2020 at Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice the 8th edition of Environmental Protection and Energy Conference took place. However, due to circumstances and the restrictions related to the organization of mass events in effect at the time, the conference was hold fully on-line. Despite the challenges associated with the new format of the conference, remote participation made it easier for people from abroad, as well as for those living in distant places in our country to take part in the event.

The EPAE Conference is organized by students of Energy Transition course at Silesian University of Technology as a part of learning by doing project approach conducted by Magdalena Bogacka and Krzysztof Pikoń. The group of students was divided into smaller teams, in which everyone had assigned specific tasks to contribute to the Conference success.

During this big day, with 323 participants officially registered, more than a thousand people watched the live broadcast on the day of the conference. There were people from 29 nationalities, more than 40 scientific institutions, over 20 industrial units and 87 presentations were present. As a legacy of this year’s edition, for the first time the conference was fully recorded and made available to watch later.

In any case 2020 was a typical year, however, the cooperative work of ambitious students from different countries and the numbers achieved show the level of success that can be reached even in new circumstances. With hearts full of hope and motivation the next year’s edition will be even better!
